CLASSES FOR ALL AGES
 Our classes suitable for all age groups. Music ... Dance ... Visual Arts ... We have it all!  Choose from the menu at the left between preschool, child, teen and adult classes offered at our Arts Center. There is something for everyone in Creative Spark's class schedule... and don't forget to mark our diverse Entertainment Programs on your calendar.

To register by mail send in the form below and payment in full or credit card information.
A minimum payment of $50 is required to hold  a spot in a class.
Your cancelled check is your receipt and confirmation.

To register in person come to 757 Long Point Road
Open from 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM Mondays through Thursdays or until 3:00 PM on Fridays.

is a multi-age, arts infused preschool program with
12 children ages 3-5 and two dedicated teachers.
At Magic Sparks, we believe that learning can happen at any moment!
Our child-centered approach engages children in:
language,
literature,
and
mathematical concepts
through a variety of multi-sensory experiences.
Our lead teachers have rich early childhood backgrounds and Masters degrees.
Detailed qualifications, goals and objectives are available.
Our curriculum includes:

journal writing,
small and large group work,

computer opportunities

lots of interaction with teachers.
The program features visiting artists from Creative Spark’s faculty who teach:

Children also attend performances several times a year hosted here at the center.
Children may attend 2, 3 or 4 days per week.

Learning Extensions
is a project-based experience for our oldest students ages 4 to 5 years old.  Designed to meet the needs of children who just miss the kindergarten cut-off date, this is a small group of eight students and gives children optimum learning experiences that expand upon the preschool program with additional emphasis on academic skills.
Monday through Friday-- after preschool until 2pm.
Picnic Pals may be offered in January if there is significant interest. Participants will bring lunch and stay after Magic Sparks to play with their friends and have a picnic lunch

MUSIC FOR ALL AGES

Children/Youth

Early childhood is a time of rapid growth and brain development.
It’s the optimal time to awaken and develop your child’s inborn joy and talent for making music.
Creative Spark is proud to offer this parent/child program developed by music professionals.

Musikgarten® Music for Babies and Toddlers
A parent/child program that awakens and develops your baby’s or toddler’s inborn joy and talent for making music.  Spend quality time together singing, moving, playing rhythm instruments and games and listening. This curricula, used worldwide and developed by music educators, is effective, enjoyable and age appropriate.
The summer eight-week theme will be “My Musical World”.
Classes are limited to 8 children.
Tuition: $80 plus $20 for materials including a CD of music

Youth ChildBroom Guitar
ages: 5 to 12 years old
This is a unique and exciting way to introduce guitar and music to kids
between the ages of 5 and 12 years old.
The curriculum is comprised of music arranged in parts; the student learns:
solo-playing skills, and
ensemble skills.
Students are placed by age in small groups of up to four students
to accommodate the young child’s attention span
and the adolescent’s expanding social horizon.
Parents will accompany their children to each half hour weekly lesson.

Private Musical Instruction in Voice & Instruments
Youth and adults, of any experience level, will learn musical theory,
and learn to read and play music in a variety of styles.
Spark’s faculty offers weekly private lessons at times to suit your schedule.
Instruments taught include piano, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, violin, and voice.

CULTURAL AWARENESS GRANTS FOR TEACHERS
Through support of the S.C. Arts Commission and the Southern Arts Federation, Creative Spark provides
subsidies for teachers to bring their classes to attend performances at Creative Spark.
 Free tickets are also available to schools unable to pay.
These professional performances bring the best of the world’s cultures to your children
to enhance their understanding of geography, social studies, heritage and the Arts.
Many of the performances come with study guides.
Interested teachers and parents can request these tickets by calling Creative Spark’s director.
The S.C. Arts Commission and the Southern Arts Federation receive
support from the National Endowment for the Arts.

ART FOR ADULTS

Adults - Basic Drawing
Adult beginners will learn the basic pencil drawing skills of line, values, proportion, neutral space, and personal expression. Students will build on their experiences with gentle guidance and the opportunity to relax and learn. Instructor Scott Debus
6:30p to 8:00p, Tuesdays, April 22nd – May 27th

Tuition: $110 for 6 weeks of classes plus $20 supply fee

Adults – Introduction to Abstract Painting
After two fun group paintings and a little time spent on design principles and painting techniques,
students will select paintings to copy from a DVD. Each child will receive a copy (free)
on the 100-year history of abstract painting, and then graduate to doing paintings in their own styles.
Recycled materials will be provided, or students can bring their own.

Tuition: $115 for 6 weeks of classes 

Travel Journaling Class

CLAY / Ceramics

Hand Building Learn the techniques of coil, slab, and pinching method with focus on both decorative and functional designs that include mosaic tile.
Wheel Throwing Learn to make thrown forms on the potter’s wheel.  Basic forms include cylinders, bowls, and manipulating the forms.  Other techniques include throwing bottomless, cutting, and darting to make off-round forms
Surface Decorating Techniques such as slip trailing, sgraffito (scratching through color), mishima (inlay), and carving will be introduced to offer students a variety of options for creating unique and visually expressive work.

Children/Youth

Youth Slab Clay
Children ages 10 to 16 will learn to create fun, imaginative forms by developing hand-building skills. Learn the techniques of coil, slab, and pinching methods with a focus on both decorative and functional designs. Students will learn creative ways of decorating with stamps and carving tools. CLAY FOR ADULTS

Combination Clay
The combination clay classes are for adult students wanting to develop hand-building and throwing techniques.
Varying decorating techniques will be experienced during the finishing stages.
Small classes accommodate both beginners and experienced adult students and allow
persons to work at their own pace under the instructor’s guidance.
Optional lab times are also available to current students at various times each week for a small fee.

DANCE LESSONS FOR ALL AGES

Creative Movement for Children

These classes are designed to introduce children ages 3 to 5 to the love of dance and music through the beauty of creative movement and classical ballet. Age appropriate, creative classes that develop grace, strong discipline and healthy physique. The use of props, games and imaginative play keeps it fun and interesting. Dance Leotard Optional

Adult Modern Dance
This class is suitable for experienced adult dancers of any age. Jocelyn Nugent has been with
Anonymity Dance Company as a performer, choreographer and assistant director since 1988 and
has danced with renowned companies in California after completing her BFA in Modern Dance and Ballet.
She brings her broad background to a class for adults aimed at developing creative
minds and bodies using interesting music and movement ideas.

When: Wednesdays, June 25 -July 30
6:30 to 8:00 PM
Tuition: $12 per class or $40 per month. 

Belly Dancing
This exotic and elegant dance has evolved through the ages and has become a popular way for women to stay
in shape and become more graceful.  You will be initiated into the extraordinary world of this playful and alluring dance. No experience is needed. 
Bellies of all sizes are welcome! Wear comfortabl
e clothes.

Ballroom Dancing
Stanley Ostendorff, the area’s most consummate professional dance teacher with over twenty years of experience,
can help you get out on the floor dancing: Beginners Shag, Rumba, Waltz, and Cha Cha. Sign up with or without a partner.
Couples and private lessons are also available by appointment.

Creative Spark’s spacious dance floor is filled every weekend with dancers enjoying waltz, salsa, swing, Cha-Cha,

by Stanley Ostendorff of Ballroom Plus.
Come with or without a partner to enjoy the friendly atmosphere and great music.
No reservation necessary

OTHER AREAS of INTEREST
Girl Scouts & Boy Scouts
Your troop can earn badges by participating in a educational clay outing at Creative Spark clay studio.
The troop will learn about the different types of clay, glazes, and firing.
They will work with slab clay to form fun functional works of art.

Groups are limited to 15.

Cost: $15 per scout for a 1-½ hours.
Sponsorships and Donations Consider a tax deducible donation to support your community’s art center.  You may choose to underwrite the cost of school performances, invest in capital improvements, or donate to the general fund.  Perhaps you’d like to honor a creative person in your life by making a donation in his or her name. Creative Spark’s commitment to enriching the community with excellent art education and events is dependent on your support.  We are also grateful for volunteers especially for building maintenance, help at performances and special events.
